Outline I
Before You Begin:
Tips for Using the
Catalogue of Names
Never dismiss a different spelling from your family's
spelling
until you have completely checked it out. I made that awful
error years ago.
Any record
keeper could have misspelled the name or two members of the same family may have decided
to change the spelling. This happens more often than you think.
Not all entries come from original sources, which you
should check whenever possible. Even these original sources can have errors when
transcribed from another source (Example: a small church's transcripts hand copied to the Bishop's transcripts
can show discrepancies and
deletions, so check both!) Cemetery records & tombstones may
not be the same. (Example: Tombstone: Henry Weick (correct) but records stated
Henry Hick!
I tried to copy the names as I found them. However, I get in a hurry sometimes.
If you see the name spelled incorrectly or it looks differently than it
should, consider the error mine.
