Event: Census Reports:
and
Census records are notorious for errors and the erroneous
information occurs for various reasons--but in addition to the normal
problems--the 1841 British Census, in particular, estimated the adult ages to
within 5 years making it hard to find precise dates of birth for individuals.
Note: Keep in mind that relationships in a census record are all connected to
the HEAD OF THE HOUSEHOLD. This can get a little tricky. For example: Ann, 65,
unmarried, head of household. She is with Robert, brother (to head of
household), 63, widower; and Hannah, 30, unmarried, and is listed as niece. She
is probably Robert's daughter, but her relationship to the "head of
household" (Ann) is niece.
I will add
the records as I find them to the database. I have a great deal more work to do
on the census records.
British
Census Dates: all on uneven years: June 6, 1841; March 30, 1851; April 7,
1861; April 2, 1871; April 3, 1881; April 5, 1891
American Census Dates: all on even years.

Beware of Indexes!
Most of the following census records are now available on the Internet.
Whenever possible, view the original.
Transcribers can make errors too with misspelled names, errors in dates, places,
etc.
(One example of many: one place was clearly--to me--Ormskirk but was listed on
the index as Dunkirk.)
