Train Routes: The Preston to Wigan train route opened in 1838. Preston was on the main West Coast route from London to Glasgow by 1846. Trains also went from Preston to places like Chorley & Bolton & Ormskirk & Liverpool |
Steam railway system, Liverpool to Manchester: In 1830 the train, "Planet", went from Edge Hill to Manchester in one hour.; (I recently read that the trip from Liverpool to Ormskirk by train took about 30 minutes) |
